Hey Anywhere Incomers,
Reddit just banned me.
That's exactly why I'm giving you this strategy for free today.
Despite the ban, Reddit remains the most overlooked opportunity for service-based income on the internet.
This is how I went from corporate drone to $2,500/month on top of my full-time job.
An instrumental part of the journey that let me walk away from the rat race and design the flexible life I actually wanted.
Why Reddit Beats Fiverr and Upwork
Most people starting a service-based side hustle make the same mistakes. They create a Fiverr account and race to the bottom on rates, picking up scraps for pennies. Or they try Upwork, which is basically a scam where you pay for credits with zero work guarantee.
Reddit is different. There's a ton of genuine work if you know where to look, and customers pay proper rates because they're not shopping on price comparison platforms.
The Reddit Opportunity Strategy
Here's exactly what I'd do if I were starting again tomorrow:
Step 1: Map Your Territory
Use Map of Reddit (screenshot below) to find every relevant subreddit for your service. Cross-reference with ChatGPT or Claude to make sure you're not missing any.
Key subreddits to start with:
r/HireAWriter
r/HireAFreelancer
r/Hiring
r/HireMe
Plus dozens of niche subreddits for your specific skill
Step 2: Set Up Your Weekly Routine
Create calendar reminders to advertise yourself once per week on subreddits that allow it. Most hiring subreddits let you post weekly - any more and you'll get banned like I did.
Step 3: Automate the Hunt.
Download Reddit Alerts app (£3 for lifetime access). Set up alerts for keywords like "I need a writer" or "hiring video editor" whilst filtering out self-promotion terms like "hire me" or "my portfolio."
You'll get phone notifications every time someone posts a job in your niche.
Ad Break: Supercharge Your Solo Business
Building income streams like this requires the right productivity stack. We partner with Raycast - an AI-powered productivity tool that gives you instant access to all the best AI models through simple shortcuts.
I genuinely use Raycast every single day. I only promote or partner with products and services that genuinely work for me.
The beauty of Raycast:
Access ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity without switching apps
Two-button shortcuts automate what used to take hours
One subscription replaces multiple AI tool payments
Built specifically for productivity and speed
I haven't even scratched the surface of what this tool can do yet, and it's been instrumental in my freelance income journey.
Back to the strategy...
Step 4: The DM Script System
When alerts come through, drop into their DMs immediately with a personalised message. I automated this with Raycast - set up a command where I press two buttons, paste in the job description, and it produces a personalised message instantly.
Speed matters. Be first in their inbox using tools like Raycast (see advert above) to supercharge your solo journey.
A Few Ground Rules
Reddit requires finesse, but if you follow these basics, you'll be gravy:
Read the subreddit rules religiously
Don't create multiple accounts to boost volume
Stick to weekly self-promotion limits
Speed matters - be first in their inbox using tools like Raycast (see advert above) to supercharge your solo journey
Why I'm Sharing This Now
I'm banned, so this strategy is useless to me personally. But it's still the most beginner-friendly way to find genuine service work online. No racing to the bottom on Fiverr. No paying to play on Upwork.
Just real clients paying real money for quality work.
The corporate world trained us to think we need permission to earn money. Reddit taught me we just need to show up where the work actually is.
Your move,
Lewis
